The Long Version
I was born and raised in Orange County, CA to Filipino immigrants. I grew up as an overachiever, always wanting to succeed in everything that I did. Even in kindergarten I had dreams of becoming a doctor. Growing up culturally Catholic and attending religious school all the way to high school, God was always present in my life but was more of an afterthought.
I entered the University of California, San Diego believing that God existed but instead focused my life on other things that I thought were important (friends, family, success, etc.) As I was striving towards graduating a year early so that I could attend medical school it occurred to me that what I was striving towards, happiness after med school, was not making me truly happy now. Around the beginning of my junior year I took a good look at my life and realized that I was missing something. After looking at all the people I knew I realized what I was missing was God. This is where my life totally took a 180.
After committing my life to Jesus in my Junior year I got really involved with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF), the group which helped me to discover who God was. In a span of a few years I was like a sponge, wanting to be any where I could learn more about Jesus and grow personally. I attended a summer missions trip in Los Angeles, went onto leadership with IVCF as a Bible study leader and eventually decided to work full time with InterVarsity after graduating college in 2005.
Ten years later I still work with InterVarsity and am now a campus staff at San Diego
State University. My main responsibilities include overseeing the campus team at SDSU, which includes all the non-dorm Bible studies on campus, and mentoring and discipling students. I seriously love what I do! Just as I had been changed by God in college, my hope is to see that transformation in the students at SDSU.
Other than working full time with InterVarsity, my time is also spent serving at my church, Ethnos Community Church, on the worship team. I love playing music, spending time with friends and being active (when I’m not feeling lazy).
